Thank you so much for trying so hard to help me.
When, where did Olive Blanche die? Did she ever remarry? Where is she buried?
She never re-married. She died in 1981, in Sydney, and was cremated at Woronora Cemetery, just up the road from where I live.
I gather you must have confirmation of John James Duncan Clark's birth and his the names of his parents as you have located thier wills.
Yes, more or less. I have a poorish copy of his birth certificate (obtained from someone else), and their names (Duncan Clark and Hessey Becket) are on his marriage and death certificates.
What were the names of JJD's siblings?
In order: Anne Jane, JJD, Hessey, Robert William, Mary Marion, Margaret, Eleanor, Caroline, Daniel Augustus, Albert William.
I got a littl confused about Charlotte - did you refer to her at one stage as Olive's step mother -or was that supposition given that you could not find Olive's birth. Which of her christian names did Olive go by, was there a pet name?
Charlotte
is confusing. She was married to JJD at the time Olive was born, and Olive lists her as her mother on her marriage certificate. But there is no birth certificate I can find for Olive, and Olive is not listed on Charlotte's (or JJD's) death certificate as "issue", so the only official connection between Charlotte/JJD and Olive is Olive's marriage cert. I don't think (though I'm unsure) I even have a census where they are in the same house. The stepmother idea comes from my mother (obviously originally from Olive), and at least part of that story is wrong (that JJD married Charlotte after Olive's birth mother died). I can see five possibilities:
1. JJD & Charlotte were her true parents but estrangement from Charlotte led to the stepmother story.
2. JJD was the father by another woman.
3. Charlotte was the mother but with another father (doubtful and impossible to prove).
4. There were other birth parents and JJD & Charlotte adopted. Possibly one of the birth parents was a Clark, hence Charlotte's resentment of Olive (if that story is true).
5. Completely different parents and Olive fabricated the story of having JJD and Charlotte as parents (for whatever reason).
It may sounbd a bit fanciful, but I think I have to consider all those possibilities.
Ernest described himself a cook or chef on the electoral rolls found so far - maybe he was the cook at the Cape Jervis camp, who knows.
Yes I understand he was - on the construction, not the operating Naval Base. That is (presumably) why he left in 1915 (when construction was finished) and went to Gunnedah.
let me know if you want me to recheck anything, either on line or at the NLA
Thanks
By the way, these are the dates of teh Commonwealth of Australia Federal elections since 1901
Are you saying all these are available at the NLA but not all online?
Thanks again.
